Ain't Misbehavin

about

Ok, this is just one of those old standards I have always wanted to record, kind of like I did when I released the video-only version of "What a Wonderful World." I played, again, a really bad bass, piano, and other foundation MIDI tracks to just see if I could pull off singing it.

I was leaving Phil's house and he asked if I had anything else ready to go. We were having fun recording, and I said, "well I have this kind of have dressed version of Ain't Misbehavin" mostly joking. He says, "Send it over" and proceeds to work around my awful parts and nails this whole Wes Montgomery meets Phil Keaggy at The Blue Note in NYC thing.

I knew my "Ringo" in Leeds was actually schooled in jazz at university, so he gets ahold of it and brings a lovely authenticity, which was greatly complemented by my old friend and first producer Fred Bogert, who records his perfectly slightly out of tune Steinway in a very Fats Waller-esque part.

All of them were working to my scratch vocal on it. I sent it to Jack Casady, who offered to play bass on it. He used to play the song in his youth, and proceeded to send me about 10 versions online to listen to... then he kept saying, "Is this the final vocal? Because I play to Jorma's vocals, and I'm gonna play to your vocal, so this is the final vocal, right?"

Well, that killed me because I always want to do a hundred vocal takes and this was my rough. Well rough or not, everyone played to it, and I'll be if when we were done if it didn't sound like we were all in the same small smokey club playing it live. The vocal was a keeper.

You were right, Jack.

lyrics

No one to talk with
All by myself
No one to walk with
But I'm happy on the shelf
Ain't misbehavin'
I'm savin' my love for you

I know for certain
The one I love
I'm through with flirtin'
It's just you I'm thinkin' of
Ain't misbehavin'
I'm savin' my love for you

Like Jack Horner
In the corner
Don't go nowhere
What do I care?
Your kisses are worth waitin' for
Believe me

I don't stay out late
Don't care to go
I'm home about eight
Just me and my radio
Ain't misbehavin'
I'm savin' my love for you

Like Jack Horner
In the corner
Don't go nowhere
What do I care?
Your kisses are worth waitin' for
Believe me

I don't stay out late
Don't care to go
I'm home about eight
Just me and my radio
Ain't misbehavin'
I'm savin' my love for you
